Piercefield – Gerald P. Black, 83, formerly of Brushton, passed away Saturday May 27, 2017. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Born January 19, 1934 in Piercefield the son of Aloney and Madeline (Brown) Black, he attended Fort Covington High School. He enlisted into the United States Army on August 28, 1956 and was honorably discharged June 2, 1958. During his military career he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Gerald united into marriage with Pearl Baker the couple had five children. After a divorce he joined a union with Gertrude Ayotte she predeceased him December 21, 2011. For many years he was a self employed carpenter.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union, and enjoyed hunting and was the happiest "swing a hammer" building things.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his children. Lorilee White of Fairborn, OH, Samuel W. Black of Piercefield, Brenda (James) Latulipe of Lexington, South Carolina, along with five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
His is also survived by his siblings St. Mary Maurice of Watertown, Joyce Black of Plattsburgh, Glenn (Susan) Black of Ft. Covington, Stanley (Patricia) Black of Lacona, NY, Bruce Black of Plattsburgh, and a sister-in-law Suzanne Black of Hamlet, North Carolina.
Besides his wife and parents he is predeceased by two children Stephen Brent, Angela Marie, grandaughter Trisha Tuper, his siblings; Robert, Ruth, Donald, Lawrence, Helen, Brian, and Theresa.
A time of visitation will be held Thursday (June 1) from 11-1 at the Flint Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will commence in Sunnyside cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post # 939.
