MOIRA – Donald J. Cox, 89, passed away Sunday evening (June 25, 2017) at the Plattsburgh Rehablilitaion and Nursing Center. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Born in Brushton on November 18, 1927 the son of John and Gertrude (Clark) Cox. After attending Brushton-Moira School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1947. He was honorably Discharged in 1950. Donald united into marriage with Dorothy Vaughan on June 11, 1949 in Hawthorne Navada. The couple recenlty celebrated 68 years of marriage. For many years he worked as a maintance worker for First Realtry Managmement in Boston, MA, retiring in 1988. Donald was an accomplished musician he enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his guitar and his mandolin from which he made with his own hands. He loved the musical sounds of Blue Grass, Country, Bellamy Brothers and George Jones. Donald was also a member of the American Legion Post # 939.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his wife Dorothy and his children; Susan (Leland) Frazier of Moira, Holly (Billy) Reome of Constable, Jimmy (Andrea) Cox of East Middle Burro, Mass, Wayne and his companion Sherrie Dunkin of Virginia Beach, Ricky Cox of Brockton Mass, Brian and his companion Nicole Perry of Plymouth Mass, Tom Berry of Brockton, Mass, 21 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His siblings William Cox, of Skylerville, Clarence Cox of Moira, Andrew Cox of Malone, Esther Kingston of Bangor, Faye (Anthony)D'Amaral of Brushton, Nancy ( John) Keller of Flordia and JoElla (Donald) Hadsell of Bangor survive him.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by two children Donna Cox who passed in 1952, Lee Cox in 1989, and his siblings; Owen, Basil, Leonard, Colleen, Larmie Vincentta and Gary.
A time of visitaion will be held Thursday (June 29th) from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Brushton United Methodist Church. Interment will commence at Sunnyside Cemetery with the American Legion Post # 939 providing the military honors.
