Obituary of Iris Martin

BRUSHTON – Iris M. Martin, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday evening (May 4, 2017) with her loving family at her side. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Born February 15, 1927 in Dickinson, she was the daughter of Edgar and Eva (Baker) Powell. On March 14, 1946 Iris united into marriage with Royal D. Martin. He predeceased her on January 22, 2001. For many years the couple owned and operated Treasures and Junk at the Red Barn on the Farm to Market Road, Brushton.

Iris was a past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary. She enjoyed many family gatherings, playing bingo, visits to the casino, reading, and listening to country music.

Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of her children; Mrs. Patti (Donald) Prue of Moira, Mrs. Debrah (Roger) Prue of Malone, Ms. Sue Robideau of Ballston Lake, and Mr. Robert Martin of Brushton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her sister Hilda Hemmerling of North Tonawanda and brother Milan Powell of Kenduski, ME survive her.

Besides her parents and husband she is predeceased by a son David R. Martin who passed away February 10, 1974, brothers Julius Powell, Edgar Powell, and sisters Lois Pike, Althea King and Joyce Black.

Iris was always grateful to those people who helped care for her needs these past few months Melissa McCaffrey, Mechelle Sturgeon, Meagan McCaffrey, Tricia Wilson, Austin St. Hilaire and Tina Smith. With their efforts and dedication it allowed her the ability to reside in the comfort of her home where she found much peace.

Services: A time of visitation will be held Monday (May 8, 2017) from 11-1 at the Flint Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Iris's life will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Moreau presiding. Interment will commence within St. Mary's Cemetery where Iris will be laid to rest beside her husband Royal and son David.
