BRUSHTON - Betty J. Mitchell-Russell, 89, passed away mid-day Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Betty was born on Aug. 15, 1928 in Fort Covington, N.Y., the daughter of the late Alonzo and Lena Bashaw-Mitchell. She was united in marriage to Cleon J. Russell on Jan. 27, 1947; he predeceased her on Feb. 3, 2014.
Betty dedicated her life to raising her children and working alongside her husband operating a dairy farm on the Barrett Road in Brushton. She thoroughly enjoyed being outside and working in the barn with Cleon. For relaxation, you could catch her fishing and hunting with him or planting flowers in her rock gardens. She also enjoyed cooking and canning vegetables from her garden.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle (Greg) Moore of Elmira, Audra (Todd) Parent of Chateaugay, Jaylene (Scott) Rockhill of Plattsburgh, Chad Russell of Plattsburgh, Amy (Kenneth) Church of Tennessee, Robert (Christine) Mayville of St. Regis Falls, A
licia (Eric) Democko of Rochester, Scott (Lorraine) Childs of Chateaugay, Chris (Jeannine) Childs of Utica, Laura (Tim) Wickman of Utica, Shanna (John) Huntington of Florida, Victoria (Doug) Kirby of Florida, Shaun Russell of Montana, Jeremy (Nicole) of Maryland, Jack Jr. (Brandi) of Moira, David (Sara) Dufrane of Moira, Jessica (David) Moore of Florida, Andrew (Amanda) Kocsis of Lacey, Wash., Cory Russell of Constable, Danny Russell of Brushton; 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Betty is predeceased by a son, Darin Russell, who joined God's Choir of Angels in heaven during his infancy; and her siblings, Charles Mitchell, Alonzo R. Mitchell, Theresa O'Jida, Vera Mitchell-Dechamps, Eleanor Curtis, Jean Mulverhill, Phyllis Marshfield, and Joseph D. Mitchell. She is survived by two brothers, Doug and Frederick Mitchell.
A time of visitation will be held Saturday morning (March 17) from 9:30-10:45 at St. Mary's Church 1347 Washington Street, Brushton, NY 12957. A Mass of Christian burial will commence at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Raymond Moreau presiding. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, May 11, at 9 a.m.
