Obituary of Edward Russell
MOIRA - With heavy hearts, the family of Edward "Ed" J. Russell, Sr., 77, announce his passing on Tuesday (June 5, 2018) at CVPH. He was comforted and surrounded by his loving family at his side. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Born in Moira on November 30, 1940 the son of James & Eleanor (Taylor) Russell. He was a graduate of Brushton-Moira High School. In early 1960 Edward was employed at the Harlem Valley State Hospital. It was there he met the love of his life Brigitte Pentz. The couple was united into marriage on November 26, 1960 in Dover Plains, NY. In 1965 with the start of his young family Ed returned home to Moira and was employed with ALCOA, then as a Forman for a tree cutting crew which worked on the installation of the 765 kilo-volt power line. Soon after that he worked for Harwood Well Drilling, and from 1978-1988 he was a self-employed truck driver. Later he was employed with the NYSDEC in the Boat and Navigation Division in Lake Clear, retiring form the NYS Dept. of Transportation in Malone in 2005.
Ed was an all-around outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He found peace being outside. He enjoyed play cards with family and friends as well as relaxing reading a good western. He was an avid NY Yankees, New England Patriots and Boston Bruins fan. Ed embraced life and loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his wife Brigitte and his children Annette Harshaw of Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, Pearl (Stanley) Peiler of Mililani, Hawaii, Ernest Russell of Moira, and James (Kristy) Russell of Moira. He is also survived by, 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
A brother, Lyle Russell of Malone, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins from which whom he loved dearly survive him.
Besides his parents Ed recently suffered the loss of his son Edward J. Russell, Jr. who went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2018. His siblings Ronald and sister-in-law Dora Russell, Janet Villnave, Earl and sister–in-law Dorothy Russell also predeceased him.
A time of visitation will be held Friday June 15, 2018 from 10-10:50 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Brushton. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow within the parish cemetery.
In gratitude, the family has requested in lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Ed's honor be made to the Moira Vol. Fire and Rescue, P.O Box 122, Moira, NY 12957.
