Obituary of Shirley W. Ross
BRUSHTON – Shirley Winifred Whitman Ross, 89, a resident of the University of the Vermont Health Center Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone, NY, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday (April 17, 2019) at the Nursing Home.
Born June 20, 1929, in Malone she was the daughter of Noel R. and Winifred A (Hanna) Whitman. At three months old, she was raised by Sidney and Bernice Austin Langdon of Dickinson, NY. She was a graduate of Brushton High School. She united into marriage with Clayton E. Ross at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Malone on August 27, 1945. He predeceased her on March 30, 2002. She was employed at the Tru-Stitch in Bombay, NY and in Malone for many years and retired to care for her husband. Mrs. Ross enjoyed many activities with her husband and family. Such as camping on the St. Lawrence River, in Massena, and in the Adirondacks with Erwin (Pat) and Joyce Ross and the Langdon family. She enjoyed dancing, 4 –wheeling, and also going on car rides to visit family and friends in her VW Bug, owning three throughout the years.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of her children, Philip and Trudy Ross of Brushton, Deborah and Chuck Beckstead of Massena, and Randy Ross and his partner Lewis Mucci of Syracuse. Also surviving her are her grandchildren Shawn Ross and his wife Denise of Brushton, Sherry Ross and her husband Ashley White of Spartanburg, SC, David Perkins of Arkansas, and a great-granddaughter Lexis Perkins of Arkansas as well as many nieces, and nephews.
Her siblings Joyce Ross and Margaret Reome both of Malone, a half-sister, Mrs. Tracy (Leona) Hale of Spokane, Wash, and members of the Langdon families in the surrounding area survive her.
Besides her parents and husband she is predeceased by a son Terry Ross at 5 months in 1952, Brothers Frank, Carl, and Orin Whitman, and a sister Joyce Sturgeon and Mrs. Ross's family of Langdon's (Brothers) Harrison, Darrell, Ora, Harry and Venzo, (sisters) Rada Scott, Sarah Bennett and Linda in infancy.
A time of visitation will be held Friday (April 19, 2019) from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Funeral services will commence Saturday at 11 a.m at the funeral home with the Rev. Carl Chamberland presiding. Burial will take place at a later date.
