Obituary of Lorraine Manchester
BRUSHTON – With heavy hearts the family of Lorraine Manchester, 83, announces her passing on Saturday, May 4, 2019 with the love and support of her family at her side. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Born on December 18, 1935 in Ormstown, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Emile R. and Adelelaide (Legault) Prevost. Lorraine graduated from Brushton High School in 1953. In 1956, she graduated from Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and later attended SUNY Plattsburgh as well as Moorhead State University in Minnesota where she received certification in nursing administration and as a Long Term Care Administrator. Lorraine worked as a staff nurse at Alice Hyde Medical Center, full and part time, for many years. For eight years, she taught physical education at Brushton-Moira Central School. For 10 years, she was employed at North Country Community College in Malone and Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa as a nursing instructor where she educated many nursing students in their LPN studies. For many years, she also worked as a nursing administrator in long term care facilities. Returning back to New York State in 1990, due to her daughter’s illness, she worked as a school nurse at Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES until her retirement in 1998.
On June 22, 1957, she was united into marriage with Richard “Dick” Manchester at St. Mary’s Church in Brushton, with the Rev. J.A. O’Brien, officiating. Dick predeceased her on July 26, 1995. They were married for 38 years.
Lorraine loved quilting, reading, and enjoyed traveling with her husband Dick where they visited many national parks throughout the United States. Lorraine was a long time member of First Christian Church, Brushton, where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was also a volunteer in the church’s Vacation Bible School ministry for many years.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of her children Robert (Cynthia) Manchester of Brushton and Anne Brekke of North Port, Florida.
She is also survived by her brother Ronald Prevost of Kileen, Texas and by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two daughters Bethany Priebe in 1993 and Susan Mulholland in 2009. She was also predeceased by a brother Carl Prevost.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 11-12:00 at the First Christian Church, Brushton. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon with Rev. Nate Beachy, officiating. Burial will commence in Sunnyside Cemetery, Brushton.
