With heavy hearts but faith in God's salvation, mercy and love, the family of Kenneth E. Cox, 89, announce his passing on Sunday, May 12, 2019, with his loving wife and family by his side, while under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
Born in Dickinson on April 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Ernest and Hazel (Johnson) Cox. He attended Brushton High School and served in the US Army from 1951-1953 and the Army Reserves from 1953-1957.
On April 9, 1955, he was united in marriage with Janet Clark at the First Christian Church in Brushton, New York with Rev. Mearl Bennett, officiating. Ken and Janet had just recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. In 1955, he joined Reynolds Metals in Massena, where he worked as a mechanic for 37 years until his retirement in 1992. He also served on the Brushton Moira Central School Board of Education for 17
years, many of these as President. To be sure, service to his community was uppermost in Ken's mind. He gave selflessly to others, his family, and his church community. A quiet, thoughtful man, he always enjoyed his coffee with friends at the Crossroads Restaurant in Moira and his weekly card games at home or the Moira fire station. Ken also enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, gardening, bird watching, and showing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to tap maple trees and make maple syrup.
Treasured memories will forever be in the hearts of his wife, Janet, and his children, Karen (Mark) Gold of New Prague, Minnesota, Cynthia (Robert) Manchester of Brushton, Michael (Linda) Cox of Brushton, Kimmarie Keck of Brushton, Cheryl (Patrick) Donigan of Liverpool, and Heidi (William) Brenner of Dickinson, and his grandchildren, Thomas (Janice) Gold of Savage, Minn., Jennifer (Christian) Lake of Beseli, Minn., Christy Gold (Mark Furniss) of St. Paul, Minn., Joshua (Ruth) Manchester of Varysburg, Sara (David) Dufrane of Brushton, James (Rachel) Manchester of Massena, Kelsey Manchester of Malone, Benjamin (Morgan) Cox of South Glens Falls, Bentley (Benjamin) Crane of Beekmantown, Taylor Keck of Summerville, SC, Luke Donigan of Buffalo, Sadie Donigan of Columbus, Ohio, Amanda Mulverhill of Plattsburgh, and Seth (Amanda) Mulverhill of Malone. Also surviving are twenty-three great grandchildren and family friend, Judith Richards of Wichita, Kansas, whom Ken and Janet adopted into their hearts following the death of her mother and father, in 1967 and 1970, respectively.
Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his siblings Wendell, Henry, Curtis, Ernest, Robert, Rita Whitman, Dorothy Clark, Irene Dennicort, Korlene Boyce, and Ruth McElwain.
Calling hours will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 17 at the First Christian Church in Brushton. Ken's funeral service will commence at noon with Rev. Nate Beachy, pastor, officiating. Patrick Donigan and Mark Gold, Ken's sons-in-law will offer words of remembrance. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson.
Memorial donations in Ken's name should be made to the First Christian Church in Brushton, NY.
