FORT COVINGTON – With heavy hearts the family of Avis T. Ghostlaw, 83, announce her passing on Sunday (Sept 20, 2020) at her home. Avis was comforted by her family with the support of Hospice of the North Country. Arrangments are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Born June 18, 1937 in Malone the daughter of Horace & Charlotte (Yaddow) Trumble. She attended Brushton High School. On October 2, 1954 Avis united into marriage with Wayne Ghostlaw at St. Mary's Church, Brushton, with the Rev. J A. O'Brien presiding. For 28 years Avis was employed at Tru-Stitch as a fabric cutter, retiring in 1986 due to her failing health. Avis was a member of the Boots and Shoe Workers Union, and worked on the Board of Elections District 3 in Ft. Covington. For 15 years she was a member of the St. Mary's Alter and Rosary Society, advocate for the Cancer Drive, and was a judge for the July 4th parades in Ft. Covington. Avis was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to decorate her home, go to garage sales, shopping and spending time in her home with her family and friends. Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of her children Kathy Ghostlaw, of Westville, and Timothy Ghostlaw of Ft. Covington. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Wayne, sons, Thomas, Wayne, and a daughter Joanne. Avis was the last of the survivors of her siblings, she is predeceased Annabelle Bilow, Mildred Campbell, Rita Oakes, Violet Oakes, Mildred Weeger, Thomas Trumble and Leslie Trumble. A time of visitation will be held Friday (Sept 25th) from 9-10:45 at St. Mary's Church, Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m with the Rev. Thomas E. Kornmeyer presiding . Avis's burial will commence in St. Mary's Cemetery, Brushton, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Wayne.
