Obituary of Terry Murray Trudeau

BRUSHTON – Terry M. Trudeau, born September 28, 1934 in Faust, NY son of H. Murray Trudeau and Winnifered Garland Trudeau passed away on Friday December 4, 2020 with his family at his side. On September 3, 1955 he married the former Marcella M. LaBarge of Dannemora, NY. Together they raised two children Lynn Marie Trudeau (Jen) of Amsterdam, NY, and Lee M. Trudeau (Lisa) of Brandon, NY along with two grandsons Connor and Luc. Terry attended St. Joseph's School in Malone, St. Peter's in Plattsburgh and graduated from MAI in Plattsburgh. He was charter member of the National Honor Society at MAI. He then went on to graduate from SUC Plattsburgh with a BS Degree in Education in 1957. In 1964 he received his MS Degree in Educational Administration from SUC Plattsburgh. He was drafted into the US ARMY in 1957 and was a dental tech. at Ft. Mason in San Francisco. Prior to his discharge he was given a direct commission as a 2nd. LT. in the Medical Service Corp. He spent the next 21 years with the 310 Field Hospital in Malone, NY retiring as a Major. His military awards include: Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Comp. Medal w/2 oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal, & Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/barrel device. In 1959 after active military service he was employed by the Brushton-Moira Central School as a Jr. High Teacher. After one year he was promoted to Elementary Principal, a position he held for 34 years. During that time, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent with responsibilities that include Federal Grant Writer, Cafeteria Manager, responsible food bidding, purchasing, menus, and reports. For several years he was responsible for the preparation of the Annual School Budget and completion of the State Aid Worksheets. He instituted and was responsible for the Committee on the Handicapped and serviced as a Chair for over 25 years. For nearly 2 years he served as the Acting Superintendent. of Schools during the terminal illness of the Superintendent. He was a member of the Alice Hyde Medical Center Executive Board for over 25 years and Chair of the Quality Improvement Committee and Chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee, Chair of the Compensation Committee for the CEO and member of the Finance Committee and the Foundation Board. He served as Vice President of membership for the New York State Retired Teachers' Association and then as PR Chair. After that he served as Sr. Vice President, President, and then Immediate Past President and currently a Treasurer for the past 12 years. Terry also owned and operated a small locksmith shop out of his home for over 25 years. He was a commissioned Lay Minister in the Roman Catholic Church and served on eh Diocesan Pastoral Council. He was a trustee for St. Mary's Church, in Brushton and was lector and Eucharistic minister. He served as a trustee of the Cemetery Association. Other areas of service include a member and President of the Maple Leaf Housing, Chaplain of the American Legion Post #939 in Moira for over 20 years, Notary public for over 50 years, Franklin County Association of Senior Citizens Treasurer, Town of Moira Republican Chairman for over 50 years, Franklin County Republican Chairman. A time of visitation will be held Friday December 11, 2020 from 10-10:50 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Brushton. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately commence at 11 a.m. The American Legion Post #939 will conclude with Military Honors.
