Obituary of Stephen A. Stanka
NORTH LAWRENCE – With heavy hearts the family of Stephen A. Stanka, 70, announce his passing on Friday (Jan. 22, 2021) at the Unity Hospital Rochester where he had been in failing health. Born January 29, 1950, in Potsdam he was the son of the late Bernard & Bernice (White) Stanka. Steve was a 1968 graduate of St. Lawrence Central School. Shortly after graduation he enlisted into the United States Naval Academy and was honorably discharged in 1972. Steve was a dedicated worker and was employed with AlCOA retiring in 2005. January 11, 1975 he married his one and only love, Pamela Barse. The couple were passionate in their love. From local coffee shops, antique car shows to camping, the couple were always together sharing in life's journey. Steve was devoted to his family especially his grandchildren Cordelia, Wesley and those numerous chosen grandchildren that were cared for in the family home throughout the years. Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his wife Pamela, and his children Michelle (Jared) Orvis of Milton, Vermont, and Sherry (Steven) Martin of Massena. His siblings Valerie (John) Villnave of Winthrop, Lanny (Ellen) Stanka of Massena, Tim Stanka, of Rochester, Jamie Stanka of Sandy Creek, Brian (Linda) Stanka of Norfolk, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins survive him. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brothers Douglas during his infancy, and David Stanka who passed in 2003. He is also predeceased by two nephews Brian Stanka, Jr, and Michael Villnave. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
