MALONE – Daniel Lee Bowen, 73, passed away on Sunday (Sept 5, 2021) at the Alice Center in Malone, NY. Dan had resided in the skilled nursing facility for the past thirteen years. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Daniel was born on November 28, 1947, in Massena, NY the son of Gordon and Marie (Follett) Bowen. Daniel graduated from Brushton -Moira Central School in 1966. In 1967 Dan enlisted in the U.S Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for his heroic efforts while serving in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1970 Dan was employed at Reynolds Metals Company, then in Gouverneur as an apartment complex manager, and later at the General Motors Company until he was forced to retire due to medical issues. Dan was a long-time member of the Brushton-Moira American Legion Post #939, playing on their baseball team in his younger years. Dan truly enjoyed the companionship and comradery by other members. Dan watched all sports but did prefer auto racing with Tony Stewart being his favorite. Before becoming disabled Dan looked forward to four wheeling outings. On September 7, 1968, Dan united into marriage with Linda Mackey, tragically his wife and infant son died on December 2, 1970. Later Dan married Rhonda Matthews in September of 1974; the couple later divorced. He is survived by two children form his second marriage Nathan of Brushton, and Jackie of Rotterdam, NY. His siblings Pauline Bowen of Henderson,KY, and Marilyn (Frank) Jakob of Brushton. Also surviving him are his four grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents, and wife and son, Dan is predeceased by a sister Pamela Bowen, and a daughter-in-law Tarsha Hopson Bowen. A time of visitation will be held Thursday (Sept. 9) from 6-8 at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Interment will commence at 11 a.m. on Friday (Sept. 10) at St. Mary's Cemetery, Brushton with Rev. Raymond Moreau officiating and the American Legion Post #939 presenting military honors. In accordance with CDC guideline facial mask are recommended.
