Obituary of Gary J. Russell

BRUSHTON – Gary J. Russell, 78, passed away Saturday evening (October 2, 2021) at the Alice Hyde Medical Center. A time of visitation will be held Thursday (October 7th) from 9:00 a.m. -10-30 a.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Brushton. Burial will commence within the parish cemetery. Gary was born December 5, 1942, in Malone the son of Arthur & Blanche Russell. He graduated from St. Josephs Academy in 1960 where he was awarded a Business Scholarship but chose to enter the work force. He moved to Wingdale, NY to work at the Harlem Valley State Hospital where he met his bride, Linda Knights. The couple united into marriage August 24, 1963, in Dover Plains, NY by the Rev. Eymard McKinnon. She predeceased him on June 7, 2015. Gary was known for his love for vehicles. Racing up and down the Sayles Road (much to the dismay of his family and neighbors), to ensuring right up to the end, that his vehicle was immaculate inside and out. When he would trade his cars, his previous car never stayed on the lot for any length of time. He also enjoyed music and at one time he played with in a few bands around the area. Besides his parents and wife Linda (whom he never stopped missing.) His only sibling Phyllis McDonald and several aunt, uncles, and in-laws predecease him. Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his children Susan (Tim) Trimm of Moira, Sandy (Chuck) Fefee and Randy (Ersa) Russell both of Brushton. His grandchildren Kristyn (Evan Tavernia) and Danielle (Devin Mitchell) Trimm, Nichole (Brent) Oakes, Corey and Allyson Russell, and Step granddaughters Miranda and Nikki Wood, as well as 10 great grandchildren survive him and one on the way. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws Wanda Shorette, Martha Walker as well as three nieces Pamela (Clyde)LaChance, Debbie (Peter) Allen, and Maryann (Steve) Winters. Memorial contributions in Gary's honor may be made to the Moira EMS or to the Moira Fire Department. With much appreciation and gratitude Gary's family would like to thank Fr. Alfred H. Fish, pastor of St. Ann's Church, St. Regis Falls for coming to the hospital and offering words of prayer and support, along with the Alice Hyde Medical Center Emergency Room and the first-floor staff for their caring and compassion and allowing his family to be with him until he was called home.
