Please share a memory of Marcella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BRUSHTON - Marcella Mary Trudeau (LaBarge) died March 1st, 2022, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Terry M. Trudeau, her parents Lyndon and Elizabeth LaBarge and two older brothers, Calvin (Theresa) and Leonard (June) LaBarge of Chateaugay and Brushton respectively. On June 11, 1935, Marcella was born at home in Ellenburg NY. Her parents owned and operated a dairy farm that historically had also been used to feed and rest horses pulling wagons at various points between Plattsburgh and Malone. In later years Marcella's stories about her young life on the farm centered around hiding barn cats in her bedroom against her mother's wishes and admiring the amount of labor her mother accomplished each day. She was particularly in awe of how deftly her mother prepared large slabs of beef. Between the time she left for and came home from school, her mother would carve, boil and "can" a side of beef in several two-gallon glass containers. She adored her father who often lovingly rocked her in the kitchen after he finished morning chores. When her father sold the farm and took a job working at the Clinton Correctional Facility, they moved to Dannemora where Marcella made friends in the new high school and learned to play both the piano and trombone. After high school graduation, she met her future husband on a double date climbing Poke A Moonshine Mountain; he was her friend's date. The couple soon began dating, fell in love and married in September 1955. Marcella assisted Dannemora's village dentist Dr. Miles Buck for a couple of years while Terry completed studies in education at SUNY Plattsburgh. After he was drafted, she worked for dentists in San Antonio Texas and San Francisco California. However, when they returned east, she felt "at home" in the small community of Brushton. While Terry worked at the school, she raised their daughter Lynn Marie Trudeau (Jen, Amsterdam) and son Lee Murray Trudeau (Lisa, North Bangor) and much later cared daily for their grandsons Connor and Luc Trudeau. She also had a special fondness for her sister in laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Two of her best friends in her last years were felines named Kitty and Bella. Marcella felt a strong desire to respond to community needs. She taught religious education at St. Mary's Parish Center and served thirty plus years as the treasurer on the Senior Center's board. She also organized many primary and election days in Brushton and made friends with educators and their spouses across the state through her husband's affiliation with the NYS Retired Teachers' Association, now known as RENY. Marcella had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh; it's probably why she was immediately attracted to her husband Terry who also loved telling jokes. She enjoyed bowling with her friends on the Crossroads Wednesday night bowling league, camping with her family in the Adirondacks, dancing, singing and attending Mass to praise God and honor her strong faith. On Friday March 11, 2022, there will be a Catholic funeral mass to celebrate her life at 11 a.m. immediately following a calling hour beginning at 10 am -10:50 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Brushton NY. Donations can be made to Hospice of the North Country 3909 US-11 Malone NY. Condolences and memories may be made on the "tribute wall" at www.flintfuneralhomeny.com
