MOIRA – Mary Ann Durant, 72 passed away Saturday morning (Oct. 1, 2022) surrounded by her loving husband and children under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Mary was born on July 25, 1950, in Moira, NY to Bernard and Phyllis Jock. She graduated from Brushton-Moira Central School and went on to earn an Associate degree from Canton ATC. On February 6, 1971, she united into marriage with Danial Durant. After raising her children and providing day care to her nieces and nephews, she returned to college and earned her Masters degree in education from SUNY Potsdam. She taught elementary at Holy Family School then transitioned to special education at two other schools dedicating 23 years to educating local youths. Mary was a board member of the Moira Historical Society and a lifelong member and communicant of St. Mary's Church, Brushton. Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years Daniel of Moira, and her children Brent of Chazy, and Stephanie (Brian) Fritzen of Liverpool. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicholas Durant, Gabriel Durant, Emma Fritzen, and Owen Fritzen. Her mother Phyllis Jock of Brushton and Mary's siblings Jeffrey (Sharlene) Jock of Brushton, and Chris Jock of Moira survive her. Besides her father she is predeceased by a sister Katheryn (Tom) Scharf. A time of visitation will be held Wednesday (Oct. 5th) from 4-7 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Raymond Moreau presiding. Interment will commence within the parish cemetery.
